Drug trafficking and drug consumption in Argentina (2015)

8 out of 10 Argentinians consider that the problem of drug trafficking in the country is very serious and more than half  of the respondents demand tougher laws.

The Social Research Centre (CIS) Voices! – UADE Foundation carried out a national public opinion study with the aim of analysing citizens' perceptions of different aspects related to drug trafficking and drug consumption.

Some findings of the study:

  • More than a quarter of the population knows places or people who sell drugs.
  • There is a general consensus that drugs such as paco, solvents, ecstasy, cocaine and hallucinogens are harmful to health.
  • Regarding marijuana, although most consider it harmful, there is a more attenuated vision, especially in young people.
  • Half of the population knows directly or indirectly people with drug problems.
